Summary

Sometimes a backyard needs a little extra to become truly inviting. This project called for a custom deck addition, designed to blend with an existing screened porch and add both privacy and function. The homeowners wanted a sturdy outdoor space that would hold up to weather and daily use, while also giving them a spot protected from neighboring views.

The Work

Built a new deck using pressure-treated yellow pine, set on 6x6 posts with galvanized metal base plates anchored to concrete footings
Reinforced deck structure with galvanized joist hangers and hurricane clips for long-lasting durability
Installed premium decking boards secured with auger-tipped screws to reduce splitting and keep a clean finish
Added a privacy wall with horizontal planks along the driveway side for added seclusion
Upgraded the back stairs with extra stringers and a supporting beam to meet code and improve safety
Fitted a heavy-duty aluminum storm door with weather stripping and tamper-resistant hardware

The Outcome

The backyard now features a solid, low-maintenance deck that stands up to the elements and daily activity. The privacy wall brings comfort and seclusion, while the upgraded stairs and storm door make the space safer and easier to use. This update not only looks sharp but also adds lasting value for the homeowners. If you’re thinking about how to improve your outdoor living area, a custom deck can make a real difference.
